Bikes ‘n Wines is a new concept in Winelands’ tourism and a South African first, combining both mountain biking and exclusive wine tastings. The tour is targeted at young-hearted and outdoor-loving people who would like to experience a wine tour from a different and authentic viewpoint. Up to four first-class Stellenbosch wine estates, situated 50 km outside of Cape Town, are visited during the day, accessed by private farm roads that take riders through vineyards and quiet tree-lined roads, with dazzling vistas along the way.

Guests begin the day with a first-class-carriage train ride from either Cape Town station or Stellenbosch Station to the Vlottenberg Train Station, where our charming guides will prep you with mountain bikes and equipment. Guests choose one of three individual tours, which vary in distance, intensity and added extras such as brandy tasting at the world-famous Van Ryn’s Distillery and visiting cheetahs at the Spier cheetah sanctuary. Depending on the type of tour, guests will visit up to 4 wineries such as Spier and Vredenheim, where you will taste over 15 different South African wines, covering a variety of grapes and blends. Unique wine and brandy pairings, such as a cheese and chocolate will be a part of the tour as well as educational cellar tours. Experts from the estates will guide and educate you in the tasting process. The journey culminates with a return cycle to the train station where each guest receives a complimentary bottle of wine to take home.

Bikes ‘n Wines caters for all ages and fitness levels, offering personalised tours as well as adventures for groups and corporates. “A cycling tour that embodies the culture and spirit of adventure in the Cape winelands.”
