Constantia Glen Five 2008, which also won a Gold medal at Mundus Vini in Germany, is one of two classically styled Bordeaux blends shaped by exceptional cool climate, sunkissed vineyards on the magnificent boutique wine estate perched on the upper reaches of the Constantiaberg. Named in accordance with the number of Bordeaux varieties in the blend, Constantia Glen Five is made up of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Verdot and Malbec.
As its predecessor, the award winning 2008 vintage is an exercise in balance. The International Wine and Spirit Competition judges describe it as a “super display in the mouth of all things rich and full yet in fine balance and great style. Super harmony in every way.”
This is exactly what winemaker Karl Lambour set out to do when he crafted this wine: “Balanced, complex and retaining the desirable elements of freshness and suppleness, this wine is dense and has ample extract to allow for superlative ageing potential over the next 10 to 15 years,” affirms Karl.
The International Wine and Spirit Competition aims to promote the quality and excellence of the world’s best wines, spirits and liqueurs. For the first time this year, all the South African wines were judged locally in Paarl resulting in an increase in the number of entries of over 27%. South Africa scooped an incredible 641 medals including 32 Gold Best in Class and 13 Gold in this prestigious competition.
