Bergkelder
Western Cape
Winelands - Stellenbosch |
|
|
|
The Bergkelder
was built in 1968 into the Papegaaiberg, from which it
derives its name. The cellar was the first mountain cellar
in the country and was named after the annual clay pigeon
shoot, held to commemorate the birthday of Governor Simon
van der Stel in the late 1700s.
Under perfect conditions thousands of bottles of Fleur du
Cap and other fine wines from the Cape are laid down to
mature in the mountain cellar. Old carved vats, which bear
carvings of various famous Cape wine landmarks, add to the
tranquil atmosphere. In this beautiful candle-lit cellar
you'll taste a number of excellent wines and make up your
mind as which wines styles you prefer.
Our Fine Wine Shop offers older vintages and larger bottles,
gift packs, quality wine accessories etc - its probably one
of the most beautiful and best stocked wine shops in South
Africa.
Our cellar tours are professionally conducted and sizes of
the tours, are strictly controlled. This means it would be
preferable for you to make a reservation. Should you miss a
tour, you'll still be able to taste a number of wines in our
wine shop.
